Do you use Google to search for things on the internet? Well that’s basically search marketing!

When you do a Google search, the results that come up consist of organic (free) and paid (AdWords) searches, all together on the same page.

The top three results are paid searches (AdWords), with more paid searches appearing down the right hand side of the page. The remaining results are known as organic or free, and are there due to your website being optimised for the search engines (SEO). Websites are indexed by the Google search robots for the organic searches, and they decide which are the most relevant webpage results to show for your keyword search.

With AdWords, you have much more control over the position of your advert on the page, than you do with the organic search.

It is important to get your website on the first page of the Google search, as most people don’t look beyond this when searching, and the easiest and quickest way is by using Google AdWords.

So if you can get your AdWords advertisement to appear in the top three positions, you will get a lot of clicks, and hence traffic to your website, as they are the first results that the searcher will see!
